The Know It Owl Interactive Science and Literacy Program

The wise and witty Know It Owl travels the world meeting young animals with some wonderfully mistaken ideas about themselves. Through humorous dialogue, fascinating animal facts, and enthusiastic audience participation, students help Owl uncover the truth.

During the presentation, students may:

  • Meet a great horned owl puppet

  • Help perform the story’s two-character dialogue

  • Join in with Owl’s memorable catchphrases

  • Examine an owl skull and other educational props

  • Watch short videos demonstrating owl flight, calls, vision, and head movement

  • Discover facts about animal adaptations, habitats, geography, and conservation

  • Learn how an idea becomes an illustrated and published book

Every participating teacher receives a complimentary lesson plan to extend the learning in the classroom.

Best suited for PreK through fifth grade and adaptable for different ages, group sizes, and curriculum goals.

Curriculum connections: Life science, animal adaptations, habitats, geography, conservation, literacy, speaking and listening.

Testimonials

She was astute in understanding the needs and love of story time with our PK3, PK4 and Kindergarten students. She used a variety of props and projection to help convey her stories to such a young audience. We loved our time with her!
— Leslie H., Librarian, Presbyterian School
We had such an awesome experience having Terri Sabol do an author visit at our school! Terri was great at communicating with us and everything went smoothly. She is very engaging with all grade levels. Terri did a presentation to our high schoolers on her career as an author. For our Pre-K through 3rd graders she read her Know It Owl book. All of the kids were captivated by the story and loved the way Terri interacted with them! It was a great day for everyone!
— Patti Flow, Counselor (Calvary Episcopal Preparatory School, TX)
My school was lucky enough to have author Terri Sabol visit and share her book, The Know It Owl, with us. The children loved it! The story mixes interesting nonfiction facts with colorful, funny characters that keep children engaged. I’m excited to add this to my first grade library to use it in years to come.
